Get to know Catherine
Catherine Wiersch understands the importance of hard work, perseverance, and service. Catherine was born and raised in Las Vegas, and has made Henderson her home for the last 17 years.
As the first in her family to graduate from high school and from college, she overcame challenges, including housing insecurity, to build a career focused on public service.
While attending UNLV, Catherine began partnering with local apartment complexes in giving back to the community through a character-based curriculum for elementary-aged children and organizing quarterly complex events that fostered growth and connection between residents and management.
Catherine has served hundreds of hours with numerous local non-profits. Her most recent service provides free power of attorneys for health care through the Senior Law Program and adult guardianships through Legal Aid of Southern Nevada. She also sits on several committees with the Clark County Bar Association, including the New Lawyers and the Community Service committees.

Today, she serves as a Chief Deputy at the Clark County Public Defender’s Office, where she primarily handles cases involving behavioral and mental health issues, including assisted outpatient treatment, civil commitments, and specialty courts for mental health and substance abuse treatment programs while on probation.
As the sole attorney representing every patient in Clark County placed on a Mental Health Crisis hold, she safeguards constitutional rights for individuals held in hospitals against their will. Beyond the courtroom, she collaborates with community partners to ensure hospital staff, doctors, police officers, and others understand the laws surrounding mental health crises. Partnering with Eighth Judicial District Court Judges and Hearing Masters, she extends her commitment to public safety into medical and psychiatric facilities by offering educational presentations and Q&As that address the hurdles of mental health treatment. This work has deepened her belief that justice should be both accountable and rehabilitative, with the ultimate goal of long-term public safety.
Married to a disabled Air Force veteran who now works as a Department of Defense firefighter, she has great respect for the sacrifices made by service members and first responders. Her advocacy for veterans in the courtroom is shaped by compassion, strength, and a deep understanding of their unique challenges. Participation in the Henderson Police Citizens Academy has also given her valuable insight into the work of law enforcement. She believes in upholding the law and knows that strong communities are built on fairness, accountability, and respect.
For Catherine, strength, service, and justice are not just words. They represent a lifelong commitment to partnering with the community, upholding integrity, and ensuring the law is applied fairly. Henderson is a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family, and she is committed to keeping it that way.
